Red Plum Blossoms in winter at Showa Kinen Park located in Tachikawa City, west of Tokyo. On Feb 25, 2001, I left home by train from Okegawa station carrying painting tools and got off at the station of "West Tachikawa" , the nearest station to the south gate of the park, and entered it at 11:00. It was a cold day with snowy cloud drifting around the Chichibu mountains with dark blue sky windows. When I got off the train at West Tachikawa Station, strong north wind attacked me which was almost about to make me come back home if my spirit should have yielded to the cold winds. I recovered my spirit and entered through south gate into the park and approached the blossom garden over the "Waterfowl pond" where I could find red plum blossoms close to full bloom in winter and, as well, many people visiting to see them in spite of the cold season, some of them seemingly from Asian countries. Red color of the blossom and the mind of the people waiting for spring looked like corresponding with each other. And particuraly, the red color of the blossoms which bloom against the cold blue sky of winter may looked exotic for those from southern Asia countries.
